E1 European long-distance path in Switzerland
– At around 340 km, you’ll find the shortest stretch of the E1 hiking trail running through Switzerland. This fairly small country needs no extra space to showcase its breathtaking beauty. In the city of Konstanz on the Lake Constance you will cross the German-Swiss border, passing through Rapperswill, Schwyz and Gotthard to reach Lugano, at which point you will cross the border again into Italy. Along the way you are going to see Switzerland’s most spectacular side. Lake Zurich and Lake Lucerne in Switzerland’s heart are up there among the most beautiful lakes in Europe, with little towns and villages dotted along the picturesque mountainous landscape. Maybe you will get lucky and snap a picture of a local wild animal! As well as foxes, rabbits, hedgehogs, marmots and bearded vultures, mouflon and lynx are native to Switzerland.
For more information check out hiking-europe.eu: Some years ago, the E1 route was completely different and often merged with other hiking routes […] Up to Brunnen, the E1 is now synonymous with the Route 4 (via Jacobi / Schwabenweg) and no longer traverses to the towns Wil and Wattwil.
Photos of the old route may also be submitted for the E1|R1 Photo Award.
The following list of places should make it easy for you to know if you have taken photos on or near to the E1 in Switzerland, or indeed where future photos can be snapped! If you have been resident in any of these places, or simply passed through, don’t hesitate in submitting your photo(s) to the E1|R1 Photo Award!
